Un rêve ou une exposition ?
Dans son exposition « The Dream of Polifilo », l’artiste Nicolas Buffe nous prend par la main et nous emmène dans son monde imaginaire. La frontière entre rêve et réalité s’estompe… Suis-je devant des artefacts ou transportée dans un monde imaginaire ? Dois-je suivre l’artiste, son avatar ou suis-je moi-même devenue mon propre avatar ?
Dans un Black Cub, Nicolas Buffe nous fait perdre nos repères. À la frontière entre jeu vidéo et parc d’attraction, entre réalité et monde virtuel, entre visiteur et acteur… Il trouble la perception, modifie le media exposition, perturbe les codes scénographiques, propose une réelle expérience… une expérimentation.
De l’entrée à la sortie, tout est mis en scène, étudier, aménager avec des temps forts, des immersions, des face-à-face, des pauses également. Polifolio est-il l’artiste ? le visiteur ? ni l’un, ni l’autre ? Les cartes sont données. Au visiteur de jouer, de retrouver son âme d’enfant et de créer son propre parcours d’artiste.
« Nicolas Buffe: The Dream of Polifilo » est une exposition temporaire, présentée dans le cadre du French May. Composée de 4 salles, elle joue avec les codes de l’exposition. Dès l’arrivée, la position du visiteur est interrogée. La première salle est-elle un hall d’accueil ? L’exposition a-t-elle déjà commencé ? On peut y lire un texte d’introduction, une mise en condition, mais nous ne sommes pas encore complètement plongés dans l’univers de l’artiste.
La galerie d’exposition à proprement parler est composée de trois espaces, deux consacrés à des vidéos et un au grand labyrinthe imaginé par l’artiste. Alors que les œuvres filmographiques distillent les clés permettant de comprendre le propos de l’artiste (tout en proposant une posture classique du visiteur-spectateur), le labyrinthe perturbe notre habituelle flânerie des expositions… Où est la frontière entre œuvre et scénographie ? Quels éléments forment la scénographie ? Y a-t-il un ordre, un parcours défini ? Quelle est l’histoire qui nous est racontée ? Quels sont son début, ses péripéties, sa fin ? Dois-je créer seule l’histoire avec les outils qui sont mis à ma disposition ? Suis-je le propre curator de ma visite ?
Une exposition donc en forme de point d’interrogation pour moi. Elle m’interrogera longtemps encore sur la place du visiteur, sur la construction (et la destruction) d’un parcours, sur la muséographie dans les expositions de beaux-arts… Bref, une chouette exposition qui nourrit la réflexion !

A dream or an exhibition ?
In his exhibition "The Dream of Polifilo", the artist Nicolas Buffe takes us in hand and takes us into his imaginary world. The border between dream and reality fades... Am I in front of artifacts or transported into an imaginary world? Should I follow the artist, his avatar or am I myself become my own avatar?
In a Black Cub, Nicolas Buffe makes us lose our bearings. At the border between video games and amusement park, between reality and virtual world, between visitor and actor... It disturbs perception, modifies the media exposure, disrupts scenic codes, proposes a real experiment ... an experiment.
From entry to exit, everything is staged, studied, arranged with highlights, immersions, face-to-face, breaks also. Polifolio is the artist, isn’t he? the visitor ? neither ? The cards are given. The visitor has to play, to find his child's soul and to create his own storyline.
"Nicolas Buffe: The Dream of Polifilo" is a temporary exhibition, presented from the French May. Composed of 4 rooms, it’s playing with the codes of the exhibition. Upon arrival, the visitor's position is questioned. Is the first hall a reception hall? Has the exhibition already begun? We can read an introductory text, a mise en condition, but we are not yet completely immersed in the universe of the artist.
The exhibition gallery itself is composed of three spaces, two dedicated to videos and one to the great labyrinth imagined by the artist. While the filmographic works distill the keys to understand the artist's intention (while proposing a classic posture of the visitor-spectator), the labyrinth disrupts our usual strolling of exhibitions ... Where is the boundary between work and scenography? What elements make up the scenography? Is there an order, a defined path? What is the story told us? What are its beginnings, its adventures, its end? Should I create the story with the tools that are available to me? Am I the curator of my visit?
An exhibition so question mark for me. She will question me for a long time on the place of the visitor, on the construction (and destruction) of a course, on museography in fine art exhibitions... In short, a nice exhibition that nourishes reflection!
